Who are we?
Maryland Association of Softball Officials (MASO) provides fastpitch softball umpire services to Central Maryland-area public schools (MPSSAA), private schools as part of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (IAAM), and National Club Softball Association (NCSA).
What does being an umpire mean?
Being an umpire is much more than understanding pitching, hitting, catching, and baserunning; It is being responsible for enforcing on-field rules and rendering decisions on judgment calls. Umpires use voice and hand signals to communicate their decisions. Enforcing rules and resolving disputes in the sport of fastpitch softball comes from being a well-trained umpire.
An effective umpire requires staying updated on changing rules and regulations to ensure they are properly enforced during games.
MASO trains and mentors men and women, of any age, who love the sport of fastpitch softball.
